Being Small Doesn’t Mean Being Powerless

One of the beautiful things about Jiu-Jitsu is that size and strength aren’t the only things that matter.

Children learn about leverage, positioning, timing, technique, and problem-solving. A smaller person can learn ways to create opportunities against someone who is physically larger.

This doesn’t teach children that they should go looking for fights.

Quite the opposite.

It teaches them that they have options.

Instead of thinking, “I’m too small,” they can begin to think, “What can I do?”

That change in thinking is powerful.

Self-defense isn’t just about what happens when someone puts their hands on you. It’s also about developing the confidence to recognize that you have a voice, you have choices, and you are capable of responding to difficult situations.
