Big and Little Wins
About a month ago, Spencer started having all the classes begin with the question- “What is a win you have had today or this week?” It is such a simple question but it has changed my world.
First, I love being able to hear everyone’s wins. Some are milestones like trips and birthdays. I have loved hearing about the kids' first time going to Lagoon. Or being able to see cousins they haven’t seen for a long time.
From the adults, I have been able to hear about promotions at work or babies on the way. I have also loved hearing about the smaller wins. Someone enjoying their favorite ice cream the night before. Someone starting a new book they have been excited about. Someone being outside and watching the clouds.
Then there are deeply personal, internal wins. Standing up to a bully. Setting boundaries. Making hard decisions that will improve their life.
Second, this question has also made me search to find the wins not only in my personal life but in my Jiu Jitsu. Learning a new sneaky technique. Staying on top and not getting swept. Not tapping in a difficult situation and finding the escape. And of course the occasional satisfaction of tapping a training partner out that I haven’t caught for months.
Reflecting on these moments has filled me with so much gratitude for the big and littles wins. Life can be hard, but it is also really good especially when you take the time to recognize and appreciate the wins that are everywhere.
